Due to the sheer volume of phone calls and emails we are currently receiving the fisheries team wishes to make this announcement regarding pike fishing at Chew Valley Lake.
We no longer have the time or resource to individually respond to letters or calls regarding how we sell pike fishing permits at Chew Valley.
While there are multitude of ways the fishery could allocate pike fishing during the dead bait & lure sessions, the fact remains that there is not enough permits available to meet the number of anglers applying.
The phone application places the responsibility on anglers to call us. It is entirely up to the angler how many times they wish to call. In previous years we have tried to do applications by email or letter but this has taken weeks as the phones are continually ringing with queries about our progress with the allocations. The administrative burden was simply unjustifiable and distracted resources away from other important aspects of running the fisheries.
To suggest that the fishery should employ more staff and install more phones/computers/card terminals for three days per year is unjustifiable and would lead to increased costs and therefore increases in permit prices.
We feel it is important that the negative feedback does not force us into altering the way we run the pike fishing. By far the most efficient way for us to run the pike fishing would be by syndicating. However, we wish to offer all anglers the opportunity to apply for fishing at Chew. The phone system achieves this.
While we understand it is difficult to reach us on the phones, we are answering as many calls as possible. If you get an engaged tone it means both phones are in use. Should you call and get a ringing tone but no answer, it means that one of the phone operatives is carrying out admin work associated with handling of payment and contact details. All calls will be answered as soon as possible between the advertised times.
When calls are answered we are certain that customers will be given the very highest level of service by our staff in regards to finding suitable dates and providing information about the fishing.
We apologise if individuals feel the system does not suit their needs or meet their expectations.
